Spellbound Bernese Mountain Dogs
Welcome

Spellbound was established in 1999. I originally started in dog showing with a Labrador Retriever named Chelsea, and I seriously caught the "show bug". During that time I learned a lot and made many great friends in the dog world. I craved more action in the show ring, and decided my next dog would be my favorite breed, one I had admired at every show I went to...the beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog. My love for this breed really began with a wonderful mutt named Bosun...my dad's dog actually. She was the dog that raised me! And though I didn't know it, she instilled a love of animals in me and my family with her shining personality. She looked just like a Bernese, only smaller at about 35 lbs. So, when I ever saw my first Bernese, I just knew they would be for me!

After learning more about the breed, and finding a breeder that I liked, I waited for almost a year and a half for a puppy.  I was patient...because I wanted the right dog. Spellbound's Cabot v Peacfield, aka "Cabot" joined us at 8 weeks old.  Cabot was a great dog!  He obtained 14 points, and both majors towards his conformation Championship before we decided to retire him from that venue.  He was also a therapy dog, loved kids....so we participated in a reading education program at our local elementary school.  The kids loved reading to him!   Cabot's life was full and rich, and he touched many lives in his 7 1/2 years.

In August of 2003, Ch. Southwind Leave Me Spellbound, aka "Kiera" joined us. She was special from the day she was born, and has proven more than I could have ever dreamed of as the foundation of my breeding program at Spellbound.  Her breeders have been my mentors, my friends and my "extra parents" when I needed some!  I cannot even express how lucky I have been!  Kiera finished her Championship just 2 weeks after her first birthday, with three majors, all owner handled!  Her abilities in tracking, obedience and rally-o far exceeded mine, so we played with it all on our own and at classes here and there.  Kiera loved everyone-human, canine, feline, equine...and took pleasure in each new day like no dog I have ever known.  Her fun-loving, outgoing attitude made her a joy to have around.  She went most places with me off leash, reliable, totally trustworthy with other dogs and all people...she was a gift!  Kiera blessed me with two litters before she died tragically.

Over the past several years, Spellbound Bernese has welcomed another new addition...he is a very handsome, typey boy with bone to die for!  His coat is lacking a bit, however he makes up for it with his spectacular temperament.  He goes by Scott, and he is my fiance!   Scott is all in - with me, his kids and my kids, and the dogs.  They have become "ours".  I worry that sometimes they love him the most!   He even made his first venture into the show ring last fall!

Currently, we have four Bernese - Scarlet, Camden, Flurry & our new addition, Tipsy.   We will be out to shows on a limited basis in 2010.   Thank you for visiting!
